Yi-Chang Chen's Award-Winning Art Installation: The Green-Backed Tit Nesting Plan

A Unique Pavilion Inspired by Nature's Master Architects

Yi-Chang Chen, a renowned artist, has created a unique art installation and pavilion inspired by the nest-building style of the Green-backed Tit. This innovative design, located at the scenic Sun Moon Lake, has earned Chen a Silver A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2022.

Chen's inspiration for the Green-Backed Tit Nesting Plan came from observing the meticulous nest-building process of the Green-backed Tit, a bird species native to the area. He then used his woodworking skills to construct a human-sized nest, providing a resting place for visitors to the Ita Thau Pier at Sun Moon Lake. The location, with its stunning lakes and imposing mountains, adds to the allure of the installation.

The uniqueness of Chen's design lies in its interactive nature. Visitors are invited to enter the nest, take a rest, and find their inner peace. The lighting design focuses on human vision rather than illuminating the installation itself. This approach creates a balance between the environment and the visitors, resulting in a glare-free ambiance that enhances the tranquility of the surroundings.

The technical specifications of the installation are as follows: Width 5000mm x Depth 5000mm x Height 3300mm. The structure of the installation integrates lighting fixtures with proper light distribution and cut-off angles, further contributing to the glare-free ambiance.

Chen's design has been recognized with a Silver A' Design Award, a prestigious accolade awarded to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The award acknowledges the strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill showcased in the Green-Backed Tit Nesting Plan.

Chen's Nesting Plan is a testament to the power of nature-inspired design. By mimicking the nest-building style of the Green-backed Tit, Chen has created a unique space that invites visitors to rest, reflect, and connect with the natural world. This innovative approach to design sets a new standard for art installations and pavilions, demonstrating the potential for human creativity to intersect with nature's masterful architecture.
